Top Tips For Same Day Travel

Start Early: To maximize your chances of reaching Caye Caulker on the same day, begin your journey as early as possible. This gives you a buffer for any delays that might occur, especially at border crossings. –

Getting from Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) in Belize City to the ferry terminal for a trip to Caye Caulker is a straightforward process.

The airport serves as the main international gateway to Belize and is located approximately 16 kilometers (about 10 miles) from the Belize City center, where the ferry terminals to Caye Caulker are located.

Personally, I paid $25.00 for a taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal. This was prebooked in advance with a local travel agency, so I did pay a bit more. However, I am glad I did as the airport was seemingly abandoned when I arrived. Though understandable as there were only 4 of us on our international flight from Roatan to Belize City!

I will say San Pedro Express is your best option being the most reliable and having the best transport connections on the other end. This is who I traveled with and it was a hassle-free experience.

The first departure is at 8:00 am and the last departure is at 5:30 pm. The ferry runs every hour or every two hours depending on the time of the day.

At Belize City, the office is undercover and has a few shops around so you can hang here until your ferry departs.

What Are The Ferries Like?

The ferry ride to Caye Caulker is nothing to be worried about at all. The boats are comfortable and equipped with seating areas both inside and on the deck.

Traveling on the deck offers you a chance to soak up the sun, enjoy the sea breeze, and perhaps even spot some marine wildlife along the way. The inside seating area provides shade and protection from the elements if needed.

The staff are always super helpful, though I will say they are good at fitting everybody waiting onboard the boat. I have always booked my journeys with San Pedro Express, however, the types of boats I have traveled on have varied quite a bit. From a clean white catamaran to a bright yellow fiberglass basic boat.

Nevertheless, all journeys have been comfortable, on time, and with the opportunity to be undercovered and not in the hot sun.
