Best San Ignacio Hostels For Budget Backpackers: Bellas Backpackers

⭐️ Rating: 9.2 out of 10 Stars | 📍 Location: Galvez St, San Ignacio | 🏩 Check Rates and Availability

Another choice for the best hostels in San Ignacio hostels for budget travelers is Bellas Backpackers. It has absolutely everything you could want, plus in an excellent location, all for a great price.

This spot had an awesome chill vibe and in the evenings a lot of the guests come together and hang in the communal areas. It is definitely more of a family hostel than a party hostel.

Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, their fully equipped, clean, and functional facilities provide a comfortable home away from home.

A unique experience here is that Bella’s Backpackers invites guests to join their Belizean family with a daily treat: FREE RUM PUNCH every evening at the bar!

The staff at Bella’s in san Ignacio were amazing. So friendly and welcoming and helped with everything. Booked our atm tour thru the hostel and it was so good. Small hostel so everyone feels like family

Bellas Backpackers has two different types of dorm rooms. Either a 6-bed mixed dorm or an 11-bed mixed dorm. I booked the latter, simply because of the price, and actually ended up having it all to myself most nights.

There are also affordable private rooms here, but these are also just fan-cooled. You won’t find any air conditioning here, but in the evening a nice breeze does blow through.

The hostel also offers practical amenities such as laundry service, lockers, a communal kitchen, and free Wi-Fi, ensuring a hassle-free stay.

While breakfast is not included, you’ll find plenty of local dining options nearby since it is only minutes downtown. The great location was one of the highlights of staying here.

How I Chose The Best Hostels In San Ignacio

In San Ignacio, you’ll find a small selection, but for the most part, they have almost everything you need.

Nevertheless, it’s essential to note that hostels here may not cater to everyone’s preferences, as if I am being frank dorm rooms here seem to be a bit more on the basic side.

My personal travel style leans towards a more “glampacker” approach, and San Ignacio doesn’t precisely align with this particular preference.

Throughout Central America, you’ll encounter a thriving hostel scene where owners have transformed their hostels into self-contained havens, complete with everything you might need and activities arranged at affordable rates. However, San Ignacio doesn’t quite fit this mold.

While sturdy wooden bunk beds are undoubtedly a reliable choice, they may not suit every traveler’s taste, and this is what you will commonly encounter in San Ignacio. The good news is that the prices generally reflect this simplicity.

So, when it comes to selecting the best hostels in San Ignacio, here are a few factors I’ve taken into consideration:

A sunny rooftop terrace at Bella's Backpackers, displaying comfortable seating and lush greenery, inviting guests to relax and socialize in one of San Ignacio's top hostels.
beautiful terrace space on the rooftop of bellas backpackers san ignacio
A view of Bella's Backpackers' outdoor seating area with wooden benches and a mural, exemplifying the creative and inviting communal spaces at a leading San Ignacio hostel.
dining area next to the kitchen at bellas backpackers

Price

Hostel prices in San Ignacio vary depending on factors like the type of accommodation, the time of year, and available amenities.

Travelers seeking budget-friendly options will find dormitory beds ranging from $15 to $25 per night, while private rooms can cost between $30 to $80 USD per night.

Prices tend to be higher during the peak tourist season from November to April, but you may enjoy lower rates during the off-peak season from May to October, with potential discounts or promotions.

Booking your hostel in advance can secure better rates and ensure availability, allowing you to find the best value for your stay in San Ignacio.

Amenities

Hostels in San Ignacio aim to provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for travelers by offering a variety of amenities. These common features enhance the overall stay:

  • Free Wi-Fi ensures guests stay connected.
  • Common areas like lounges and outdoor patios encourage socializing and relaxation.
  • Fully equipped communal kitchens allow for cost-effective meal preparation.
  • Some hostels have on-site dining options.
  • Laundry facilities, including washing machines and dryers, keep clothing fresh during extended travels.
  • Lockers or secure storage areas offer peace of mind for storing valuables.
  • Tour and activity booking services assist with planning local adventures.
  • Social events such as movie nights and group outings foster guest interaction.
  • Safety measures like security cameras and key card access.
  • Hostels may offer complimentary amenities like breakfast, tea, and coffee, or welcome drinks to enhance the guest experience.

Location

Many hostels are situated in or near downtown San Ignacio, allowing guests to explore the town’s lively atmosphere, including restaurants, bars, local markets, and cultural sites, all within walking distance.

Some hostels strategically position themselves near San Ignacio’s natural attractions, offering convenient access for travelers interested in some of the town’s highlights. These act as more of an adventure hub, serving as ideal bases for travelers looking to engage in activities like hiking, cave exploration, river adventures, and archaeological tours.

If you do decide to stay in more of a hostel set in the jungle I also recommend adding a couple days to your Belize itinerary in the actual town of San Ignacio as well.
