BEST HOSTELS IN BELIZE FOR BACKPACKERS [2024]

Welcome to Belize my fellow budget traveler! Now when I was planning my trip to Central America I have always dreamt of doing the gringo trail and hitting up every country along the way.

After backpacking my way through Mexico, I arrived in Belize expecting to do the same, however finding like-minded travelers and staying somewhere affordable definitely takes some research. No worries though as I have found all the best hostels in Belize worth staying in.

From chill island hostels, beachfront locations, and relaxed stays here are the best of the best when it comes to Belize hostels.

I stayed in some pretty questionable choices, so don’t repeat my mistakes and book one of these options instead.

Now, let’s get into the best Belize hostels for each destination!

How To Choose The Best Hostels In Belize

Now there may not be a whole heap of choices in each individual town in Belize when it comes to hostels. Though there are definitely some overall favorite hostels in Belize for travelers.

I am here to divide the two options so you don’t need to book a horrible hostel in Belize!

Though in all honesty, I travel in more of a glampacker style, and very few hostels in Belize cater exactly to this.

Traveling Central America there is an excellent hostel scene where owners have built the hostels as mini resorts that you never need to leave, especially as they can organize all activities for you at affordable prices. But Belize is not the place for this.

I mean you can’t go wrong with wooden bunk beds but these aren’t really for me. Luckily for you, if you disagree with me, this is the majority of what you will find in the country.

I guess this also helps keep the prices a bit cheaper, and since Belize can be quite expensive this is needed!

The hostels in Belize generally have a great social atmosphere, comfortable beds, and clean bathrooms. So you don’t need to worry too much, nor do you have to look far.

So when choosing the best hostels in Belize, some things I took into account are:

Price

The hostels in Belize offer a range of options for different types of travelers, from dorms to private rooms, from beachfront to inland, and from party to chill. The general price of hostels in Belize depends on several factors, such as the season, the location, and the facilities.

The average price of a dorm bed in Belize is around $20 per night, while a private room can cost between $30 – $40 per night. Of course, these prices may vary depending on availability and demand, so it is advisable to book in advance if you want to secure a good deal.

Also if you want a dorm room with air conditioning you will be paying a little bit more, though trust me it is worth it!

Note that these prices can vary depending on the location, season, and quality of the hostel. For example, hostels in popular destinations like Caye Caulker, Placencia, and San Pedro tend to be more expensive than hostels in less touristy areas like Punta Gorda, Sarteneja, and Corozal Town.

Similarly, hostels may charge higher rates during peak seasons like December to April and lower rates during off-seasons like May to November

Amenities

The Best Hostels in Belize offer a range of amenities to suit different budgets and preferences.

Some of the most common amenities are:

  • Free Wi-Fi access for guests, so you can stay connected and plan your next adventure.
  • Include a simple breakfast in the price, such as toast, eggs, coffee, and fruit. This can save you some money and time in the
  • Belize can get hot and humid, especially in the summer months. A pool is a great way to cool off and relax after a day of exploring.
  • If you are traveling by car or renting one, you will appreciate the free parking that some hostels in Belize offer
  • Communal Kitchens are common here and it is a great way to keep meal costs down.

Though I will say for the most part the best hostels in Belize do lack a bit on the amenities side.

One super important thing to note is that not all hostels and rooms will have air conditioning. Though they should have fans to help keep things cool.

Also, those who do have air conditioning typically turn it off during the day. I guess this forces you to go out and explore, though it’s still better than nothing.

Secondly, not all hostels in Belize will have hot water all of the time. Though it can be so hot here that this isn’t really a big deal.

Unfortunately, it isn’t common for hostels in Belize to organize social events for guests. This is always one of my favorite things about hostels and a great way to meet other travelers. Though they still will be able to help you book tours the guests won’t be strictly from your hostel.
