What Is The Weather In Belize Like In June

In Belize, June signifies the commencement of the rainy season, extending until November.

For those interested in beach and water activities, June offers warm seas, making it an excellent time for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

However, it’s essential to keep an eye on changing weather conditions and exercise caution as conditions can quickly change, especially in the afternoons when rain is known to roll in.

Belize Temperatures In June

During June, Belize experiences warm temperatures, high humidity levels, and sporadic rain. Daytime temperatures typically range from 80°F to 88°F (27°C to 31°C), with nighttime temperatures dropping to about 75°F to 80°F (24°C to 27°C).

The month is characterized by a significant level of humidity, often surpassing 80%. Rainfall varies across the country, with northern and coastal areas receiving more precipitation than southern and inland regions. Showers and thunderstorms are common, though they tend to be short-lived and are often followed by sunny intervals.

However, from my experience, the rain typically sets in late afternoon and doesn’t last too long. Make sure to start your days early to make the most of your time in Belize.

Rainy Days VS Sunny

Despite the wet season, Belize still enjoys an average of 6 to 7 hours of sunshine per day in June.

It’s worth noting that this month marks the start of hurricane season in the region. Although major hurricanes are less likely to occur in June, smaller ones, and even those further away can heavily affect the weather here.

Nonetheless, travelers should stay updated on weather forecasts as tropical storms can potentially impact the area.

The Sargassum Situation In June

The presence and severity of sargassum seaweed in Belize can vary from year to year and month to month, as it depends on several factors such as ocean currents and weather patterns.

Sargassum seaweed tends to be more prevalent in certain coastal areas of Belize during the summer months, including June, and this is something I have experienced firsthand.

I won’t sugarcoat it, the sargassum situation in Belize in June was a lot worse than my first trip there in April. By that stage, it had changed the ocean color around the shore to a green hue rather than crystal blue, and the smell of drying sargassum plagues your nose as you walk down the beach.

However, it’s essential to note that the situation can change, and authorities and local businesses usually make efforts to manage and mitigate its impact. If you decide to visit Belize in June you will likely see large teams attempting to rake it all up and take it away.

Travelers planning to visit Belize in June and are concerned about the sargassum situation should consider the following:

  • Check Recent Reports: Before your trip, it’s a good idea to check recent reports and updates on sargassum conditions in Belize. Local tourism websites, forums, and government sources often provide information on the current state of sargassum in specific regions.
  • Choose Your Location Wisely: Sargassum tends to accumulate more in certain areas, particularly along the eastern coast of Belize and its cayes. If you’re concerned about sargassum, you may want to consider staying in regions less affected or inquire with accommodations about the current situation.
  • Be Flexible: Be prepared for the possibility of encountering sargassum during your visit. While it can be an inconvenience, it’s essential to maintain flexibility in your travel plans and activities.
  • Local Recommendations: When you arrive in Belize, consult with local residents, tour operators, and hotel staff for the most up-to-date information on sargassum conditions and any alternative activities or locations to explore.

Keep in mind that sargassum seaweed is a natural occurrence, and efforts are continually being made to manage its impact on the tourism industry.

While it may be present in some areas during June, it shouldn’t deter you from experiencing the incredible beaches.

What Are The Crowds In Belize Like In June?

In Belize, the month of June brings with it a shift in the tourist landscape. Unlike the bustling peak season, which typically runs from December to April, June offers a more tranquil and less crowded experience for travelers.

One of the primary advantages of visiting Belize in June is the relatively low number of tourists. This means that popular tourist destinations, pristine beaches, and accommodations are generally less congested.

You can explore the country’s remarkable attractions without the hustle and bustle that characterizes the dry season.

What sets June apart is the opportunity for more authentic and immersive experiences. With fewer visitors around, you can truly immerse yourself in the local culture, interact with friendly Belizean residents, and delve deeper into the heart of the country.

Another advantage of traveling to Belize in June is the greater availability of accommodations and often more budget-friendly prices.

You can choose from a wider range of options, and you may even find discounted rates for hotels and activities. This can translate into excellent value for your travel budget.

Wildlife You May See In Belize During June

Belize in June is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, offering a chance to witness a diverse array of fascinating creatures thriving in their natural habitats. This time of year, the ecosystems burst to life, creating excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife.

Here’s a glimpse of the species you might come across in Belize during June:

Birds: Belize is renowned for its diverse birdlife, and June is a particularly active month for avian enthusiasts. The lush rainforests, mangroves, and wetlands are home to an astonishing variety of bird species. Keep your eyes peeled for the brilliantly colored keel-billed toucan, the dazzling scarlet macaw, and the elusive harpy eagle. Migratory birds also grace the landscape during this season.

Butterflies: Belize boasts a rich population of butterflies, and June is an excellent time to admire their vibrant hues. The Blue Morpho butterfly, with its shimmering blue wings, is an iconic species in the region.

Marine Life: Belize’s extensive coral reefs and marine reserves are brimming with marine creatures year-round, and June is no exception. While snorkeling or diving, you might have the privilege of encountering nurse sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, and an array of brilliantly colored fish species. Belize’s waters are particularly famous for close encounters with nurse sharks and rays. I highly recommend checking out Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan Marine Reserve.

Manatees: June is an optimal time for observing gentle giants like manatees in Belize’s coastal waters and rivers. These massive, herbivorous mammals can often be spotted grazing on seagrass in areas like the Placencia Lagoon and the Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary.

Howler Monkeys: Belize hosts various monkey species, and the unmistakable howler monkeys are a common sight and sound in its lush rainforests. Their distinctive howls echo through the jungle canopy, making them relatively easy to locate. June provides ample opportunities to observe these charismatic creatures in their natural habitat.

Reptiles and Amphibians: Belize’s rich reptile and amphibian diversity is on full display. Look for colorful frogs such as the red-eyed tree frog and the poison dart frog. Snakes like the boa constrictor and the non-venomous rainbow snake may cross your path, while iguanas and lizards bask on rocks and branches. I highly recommend checking out the Green Iguana Conservation Sanctuary in San Ignacio, or the Iguana Eco Corner in Ambergris Caye to support local conservation efforts.

Jaguars: Although sighting a jaguar in the wild is a rare occurrence due to their elusive nature, Belize is home to a thriving jaguar population. June’s slightly increased activity among these majestic big cats raises the possibility of a fortunate sighting, especially during nocturnal wildlife expeditions.

Caimans: These small crocodilians inhabit Belize’s rivers and lagoons and can often be spotted during nighttime boat tours. Their eerie, glowing eyes in the dark make for a unique and intriguing wildlife encounter.

Belize in June provides an exceptional opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the country’s rich biodiversity.
