Absolutely. I’ve watched Garden Rhapsody on a few different trips to Singapore now, and it’s one of those things I still happily go back to.

It only lasts around 15 minutes, but it feels so uniquely Singapore and is such an easy thing to fit into your evening. Basically it’s a must do.

Honestly, the great vibe is probably my favourite part. Before the show starts, everyone is spread out, chatting, taking photos, and lying back beneath the Supertrees all excited waiting for the music to begin.

The fact it’s completely free makes it even better. You don’t need to book anything, buy a ticket, or plan your whole day around it. Just turn up, find a spot, and enjoy what I genuinely think is one of the best free things to do in Singapore.

Now, if you’re trying to choose between this and Spectra at Marina Bay Sands, I’d personally pick Garden Rhapsody.

Spectra is still impressive, but sitting directly beneath the Supertrees while everything lights up above you feels much more iconic Singapore than Spectra.

The only downside is that it can get pretty busy, especially on weekends and for the later show. I’ve never found it completely impossible to get a spot, though I’d still arrive a little early if you want to lie directly underneath the trees rather than squeeze in around the edge.

Though if you come on weekends you’re best to come 40 minutes early. I’ve literally seen the longest ques to get in, and honestly couldn’t be bothered so grabbed an average spot on the hillside, though my mother still found it super amazing.

How To Get To The Gardens By The Bay Light Show

Thankfully, getting to the Gardens by the Bay light show is super easy, and you’ll have no trouble reaching the Supertree Grove before the show begins.

By MRT

The easiest way to reach the Gardens by the Bay light show is by MRT, and honestly this is the transport method I use in Singapore 90% of the time. It’s just so simple!

I recommend travelling to Bayfront MRT Station (CE1/DT16) on either the Circle or Downtown Line, then taking Exit B and following the underground path towards Gardens by the Bay.

From there, cross over the Dragonfly Bridge and follow the signs to Supertree Grove. It’s about a 10 to 15 minute walk, though I usually stop for photos along the way so it takes me a little longer.

You can also get off at Gardens by the Bay MRT Station (TE22) on the Thomson-East Coast Line. This station brings you into the southern side of the gardens, so it can be handy if you’re already travelling on that line, though you’ll still need to walk about 10 minutes to reach the Supertrees.

Walking From Marina Bay Sands

If you’re already around Marina Bay Sands, perhaps after watching the earlier Spectra light show, walking over to Garden Rhapsody is super easy. Honestly, it’s such a nice walk at night when the city is all lit up, plus it’s usually a little cooler, so you hopefully won’t be sweating too badly.

I recommend heading over via the Marina Bay Overpass Viewpoint for an awesome view of the highway, with the Singapore Flyer lit up in the distance. You’ll also get a little look into the luxe life as you make your way through the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

If you’re inside The Shoppes mall, simply take the escalators all the way up. On the right-hand side, you’ll exit into a small garden area connected to the hotel.

It can feel a little intimidating walking inside when you aren’t staying there, but just head on in and cross through to the other side.

At the end of the overpass, there’s an incredible view looking towards the Supertrees. However, I wouldn’t recommend watching the light show from here, as you’ll miss the music and a lot of the wow factor.

From here, head down the stairs or escalator and follow the signs towards Supertree Grove, which is around a 10-minute walk away.

By Taxi or Grab

If you’ve been clocking up the steps all day, I don’t blame you for wanting to jump in a Grab. They’re easy to book throughout Singapore and will drop you right outside Gardens by the Bay.

Just ask to be dropped at the Gardens by the Bay Main Entrance, then it’s around a 10-minute walk to Supertree Grove.

One thing to keep in mind is that traffic around Marina Bay can get pretty hectic in the evenings, particularly on weekends. If you’re travelling around show time, I’d leave a little earlier than you think you’ll need to.

Honestly I actually haven’t taken a taxi or grab there simply because the MRT is so handy, and either way it’s still a little walk to get to the Supertrees, but you’ll be paying more.

You can watch the show from right underneath the Supertrees, from a little further back, or even from above, but some spots are definitely better than others.

Lying Beneath The Supertrees

This is exactly where I watched Garden Rhapsody, and if it’s your first time, this is the spot I’d recommend.

Everyone gathers beneath the Supertrees before the show starts, with people spreading out across the grass and concrete.

Don’t be surprised to see hundreds of people lying flat on their backs, phones in hand, all staring straight up at the canopy above. Also don’t stress about the dirty ground, this is Singapore it’s super clean here!

Honestly, it feels a little strange at first, but once the music starts and the lights begin, you’ll completely understand why everyone does it.

Being directly underneath the Supertrees makes you feel surrounded by the show, and you won’t miss any of the music either. Just try to arrive 30 minutes early, or more on the weekend, if you want a decent spot.

Around The Edge Of Supertree Grove

If you don’t fancy lying on the ground with everyone else, the paths around the edge of Supertree Grove are a great alternative.

You’ll still get a fantastic view of the lights, but from more of a distance, making it easier to take in all the Supertrees at once.

Though I’ll be honest, this isn’t my favorite, I’ve been on the outskirts in the past when it’s been way too busy to get under the trees or have arrived a little late (still 15 minutes+ early). It can be quite difficult to see over everyone, and I’m on the taller side.

You may find this a good option if you’re travelling with young kids, have a pram, or simply don’t want to be squeezed into the crowds in the middle. The bonus of this is you’ll have more space to move around and can leave as soon as the show finishes without getting caught in the rush.

From The OCBC Skyway

Watching Garden Rhapsody from the OCBC Skyway is a completely different experience. Instead of looking up at the Supertrees, you’re up amongst them, giving you a unique perspective as the lights dance around you.

It’s definitely a cool way to see the show, but it doesn’t have quite the same wow factor as lying beneath the trees.

If you’re already planning to pay for the Skyway, I’d absolutely time your visit to catch the light show while you’re up there. I’ve done this during the daytime, and it’s a pretty unique experience. I’d love to do it during the light show next time!

However, I personally wouldn’t buy a ticket just for Garden Rhapsody alone. I think the free views from Supertree Grove are actually more impressive, especially if it’s your first time.

• Check the weather before heading over: Garden Rhapsody still runs in light rain, but lying on wet paving isn’t exactly ideal. Singapore weather can change quickly, so having a small umbrella or poncho in your bag is never a bad idea.
• Watch from directly underneath at least once: There are plenty of places to see the show, but being beneath the Supertrees is easily the most immersive.
• Don’t leave the second the show finishes: Thousands of people all start moving at once, so the paths and nearby transport can become pretty chaotic. Take your time, grab some photos, or wander towards the waterfront while the initial crowd clears.

Of course, you’ll need much longer if you also want to explore Gardens by the Bay.

I’d recommend coming earlier in the afternoon or around sunset, especially since most of the paid attractions close around 9:00 pm and last entry can be even earlier.

Basically, don’t plan on watching the late show and then heading into the Cloud Forest or Flower Dome afterwards, because you’ll likely be too late.

Things To Do Before Or After The Light Show

Since Garden Rhapsody only lasts around 15 minutes, it’s super easy to combine with a few other things around Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay.

Grabbing dinner at a Hawker Center is a great option to do prior. My favorite is Lau Pa Sat for evening vibes, and Makansutra Gluttons Bay if you’re looking for something a bit more bougie.

Afterwards, you could walk over to Marina Bay Sands to watch Spectra, grab a late snack at Shake Shack, or simply wander along the waterfront and enjoy the city at night.
