Hotel Mi Rochor has become one of my go-to affordable hotels in Singapore, with my latest visit marking my third stay. In this honest Hotel Mi Rochor review, I’ll cover the rooms, location, facilities, and the few downsides worth knowing before you book.

Singapore definitely isn’t the cheapest place when it comes to accommodation, especially if you want a private room rather than staying in a hostel dorm.

However, after staying at the property three times now, I wanted to share an honest Hotel Mi Rochor review and explain why it has become my go-to whenever I want somewhere affordable that still feels like a proper hotel.

Honestly, it ticks most of the boxes for me. The rooms are clean, the staff are friendly, there’s a pool for those ridiculously hot Singapore days, and having two 7-Elevens basically right outside is super convenient.

It isn’t anything overly fancy, but when I’m spending most of the day out exploring, that’s not really what I’m looking for anyway.

The location is super convenient, the staff are friendly, and having a swimming pool and laundry facilities makes it a great option.

My Hotel Mi Rochor Review

Okay, so yes, I really have stayed at Hotel Mi Rochor three separate times. The first two stays were with my mom and cousin, before and after our travels around Thailand, while my most recent visit was with my partner.

Honestly, it’s pretty hard to find a decent hotel in Singapore with a good location, an onsite pool and a decent area for this price.

For this review, I’ll focus mostly on my latest stay with my partner. My first two visits were within the hotel’s first few months of opening, aka quite a while ago now, so it makes sense to base things on my most recent trip.

Arriving And Checking In

We arrived at Hotel Mi Rochor by MRT, which was seriously easy since Rochor Station is basically right outside. This is definitely one of the biggest perks of staying here, especially when you’re dragging your luggage around in the Singapore heat.

The lobby was pretty quiet when we arrived at 1 pm, so checking in was super quick. Even better, our room was already available, and the staff let us check in early completely free of charge.

Seriously, there’s nothing better than arriving at a hotel after a 12 hour flight and being able to head straight up to your room. Though no time to relax as I had already planned a big day out at Rainforest Wild Adventure and River Wonders.

All of the staff we dealt with were friendly and available whenever we had a question. We didn’t need to use the luggage storage during this stay, though I was planning to because check in wasn’t for a couple more hours.

My Room At Hotel Mi Rochor

For our most recent stay, we booked the Superior Queen City View room. It’s 15 square metres and sleeps up to two people, so it definitely isn’t huge, but honestly, it was a pretty good size for a hotel room in Singapore.

There wasn’t loads of extra floor space or storage, so you’ll need to keep things reasonably organised, but it never felt uncomfortably cramped. If you’re travelling with multiple large suitcases, you may find it a little tight.

The queen bed and pillows were comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well, which is seriously important after spending the day walking around in Singapore’s heat. Everything was also clean and tidy when we arrived.

Being in a city-view room meant we had a nice view from higher up in the hotel. Unfortunately, the outside of the windows was quite dirty and streaky, so getting a decent photo through them was basically impossible.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was definitely the most cramped part of our room, with limited space around the toilet, sink, and it was pretty squishy getting into the shower.

It was perfectly fine for one person getting ready, but you definitely wouldn’t want both of you trying to use it at the same time. Privacy wasn’t something we had any issues with though.

Everything was clean when we arrived, with fresh towels and basic toiletries provided.

Cleanliness, Wi-Fi And Noise

Overall, our room was clean and tidy throughout the stay. The only real issue we had was housekeeping completely missing our room one day. This was even after we had switched on the cleaning light before heading out.

This was a one-off, but it was still a little annoying coming back and finding the room hadn’t been done.

The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, and I was able to stream and work without any issues.

We occasionally heard a little noise from people out in the corridor, but it was never bad enough to properly disturb us. Even with the construction near the hotel, our room was generally quiet, and we slept well each night (the jetlag and busy days probably helped as well).

Hotel Mi Rochor Facilities

Even though Hotel Mi Rochor is one of the more affordable private hotel options in Singapore, it still has a pretty decent range of facilities.

There’s an outdoor swimming pool, gym, self-service laundry and a small garden area. Though honestly, the pool was definitely a fav for me.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is on the third floor and is a decent size for a city hotel. There was plenty of space to cool off after a hot day exploring Singapore, and seriously, it was very much needed.

The pool looks out over the neighbourhood, though that also meant looking over quite a bit of construction. It isn’t exactly a glamorous rooftop infinity pool, but I still happily spent quite a bit of time relaxing here.

To be honest, there are only around 8 or so loungers around the pool, and I often found myself just leaving my things on the garden ledge as all other spaces were taken.

One other thing worth knowing is that the pool closes when it rains. This can be a little annoying with Singapore’s rather crazy weather, but when the sun is out, it’s definitely one of the best facilities at Hotel Mi Rochor.

Laundry

Hotel Mi Rochor has a self-service laundry on the third floor, which was super handy.

To use the machines, you first need to head down to reception and purchase tokens. They also sell laundry detergent pods, and the staff will help you figure out exactly what you need.

There are only two washing machines and two dryers, so I can definitely see timing being a little tricky. However, we were surprisingly able to use them straight away without waiting.

Breakfast At The Hotel

We didn’t include breakfast during our most recent stay, simply because we would’ve only eaten there for one of our three mornings.

We had Breakfast in the Wild booked at Singapore Zoo for one day, and on our final morning, we needed to leave for the airport at 4 am. By booking the room without breakfast, we saved around S$110, which was seriously worth it.

However, I did try the breakfast during my first two stays at Hotel Mi Rochor.

There was a good range of food available, though the restaurant itself felt pretty small compared with the number of people staying at the hotel. I had trouble finding a seat during the 9 am rush, so I’d recommend heading down earlier.

Overall, the breakfast is perfectly decent, but I wouldn’t automatically pay extra for it. Twenty Eight Cafe Wilkie Road is a delicious spot if you’re looking for somewhere decent for breakfast nearby!

Hotel Mi Rochor Location

Honestly, the location is probably one of the biggest reasons I keep choosing Hotel Mi Rochor. Rochor MRT Station is basically right outside the hotel, giving you easy access to the Downtown Line and making it super simple to get around Singapore.

However, there’s also plenty within walking distance. I easily walked to Little India, Bugis, Kampong Glam and Haji Lane from the hotel. Singapore traffic is pretty relaxed, with plenty of pedestrian crossings, so walking around this area never felt stressful.

If you’re heading towards Bencoolen, cutting through LASALLE College of the Arts also makes for a nice little change of scenery.

You’ll find a good mix of affordable local food nearby, along with shops and malls around Bugis. There are also two 7-Elevens just steps from the hotel entrance, which was seriously convenient whenever I needed drinks, snacks or anything random.

The area felt safe when we returned at night and was well-lit with enough people around that it never felt deserted. The only downside during our latest stay was the amount of construction happening nearby, which made walking around certain parts a little awkward.

Getting To Hotel Mi Rochor

Getting to Hotel Mi Rochor is pretty straightforward, whether you’re arriving by public transport or prefer to take a taxi or Grab.

On our latest stay, we caught the MRT from Changi Airport and then used Grab for our early-morning trip back, so I’ll break down both options below.

From Changi Airport By MRT

Taking the MRT from Changi Airport to Hotel Mi Rochor is one of the cheapest options and the route is pretty straightforward.

The journey takes around 1 hour, though don’t listen to Google Maps on this one!

Chances are it’ll want you to get off at one of the earlier stations, not Rochor. This is because the line loops around and it’s technically quicker to walk, though in the heat and with your bags it won’t be quicker and you’ll arrive a mess.

Here’s the exact route:

• Take the MRT from Changi Airport one stop to Expo.
• At Expo, change to the Downtown Line towards Bukit Panjang.
• Stay on the Downtown Line until Rochor MRT Station.
• Exit at Rochor, and Hotel Mi Rochor is only steps away.

I’ve done this exact route multiple times and found it’s easy enough. The Downtown Line does take a long time, but with the MRT costing around S$5.50, it’s definitely the best choice if you’re trying to keep your Singapore travel costs down.

From Changi Airport By Taxi Or Grab

Taking a taxi or Grab is definitely the easiest way to travel between Changi Airport and Hotel Mi Rochor, especially if you’ve arrived late, have lots of luggage, or can’t be bothered with the MRT.

The drive takes around 20 to 30 minutes and basically depends on traffic.

A taxi or Grab from Changi Airport into central Singapore costs around S$25.00 to S$45.00. However, Grab prices can surge during busy times, and in my experience, it can cost more than simply joining the official taxi queue.

On our latest stay, we used Grab for the return journey from Hotel Mi Rochor to Changi Airport. We needed to leave at 3:30 am for a 5:30 am flight, well before the MRT was running, and paid S$42.44. It was pricey, but being able to book in advance and head straight to the airport was seriously worth it at that time of the morning.

The hotel also has a large covered pickup and drop-off area, making it super easy to meet your driver without standing beside the road or getting soaked if it’s raining.

Hotel Mi Rochor Rooms

Hotel Mi Rochor has a pretty decent range of rooms, including Queen and Twin options, city-view rooms, Deluxe rooms, and larger choices for groups. There are also a few rooms with a balcony or patio if you want some outdoor space.

However, the main thing to know is that basically all of the rooms are compact, with most between 13 and 17 square metres.

On my first stay, I booked a Deluxe Triple room with my mom and cousin. It was definitely small with three adults and all our luggage inside, but still manageable.

For my latest stay, my partner and I booked a Superior Queen City View room, which felt perfectly fine for the two of us.

I think the Superior rooms are probably the best choice for most solo travellers and couples, while the Triple room works well if you’re splitting the cost between three people and don’t mind things feeling a little cosy.

I wouldn’t pay a huge amount extra for a city view, either. You don’t get any additional floor space, and our dirty, streaky windows made the view a little disappointing anyway.

How Much Does Hotel Mi Rochor Cost?

For our latest stay, we paid S$459.05 / US$355.00 for three nights in a Superior Queen City View room. This worked out to around S$153.00 / US$118.00 per night for two people.

Breakfast wasn’t included, which was a deliberate choice. We would’ve only eaten at the hotel for one of our three mornings, and booking without it saved us S$110.00 / US$85.00.

Honestly, I think Hotel Mi Rochor is one of the better-value private hotel options I’ve found in Singapore. It isn’t crazy cheap, but Singapore accommodation rarely is. For the location, clean room, swimming pool and laundry facilities, I thought the price was pretty reasonable.

What I Liked About Hotel Mi Rochor

Considering I do look for other hotels in Singapore, but always end up back here, there must be something they’re doing right. These were the things I liked most:

• You get a lot for your money: Finding a clean private room with a pool and a good location at this price is pretty difficult in Singapore. It still isn’t backpacker-cheap, but compared with a lot of other hotels, I think it’s really good value.
• Rochor MRT is basically outside: Seriously, there’s nothing worse than getting off the train and having to drag yourself and your luggage through Singapore’s heat. From Rochor Station, you’re only a couple of minutes away from your room.
• There’s a pool: This was very much needed after spending the day walking around in ridiculous heat. It isn’t some fancy infinity pool, but it was somewhere I could happily cool off and relax.
• The little conveniences add up: Having the self-service laundry onsite made things so much easier during a longer trip. There are also two 7-Elevens right outside, which sounds basic, but trust me, it’s super handy when you need a bottle of water or a snack.
• Early Check-In: I wouldn’t count on it 100% of the time. But being able to check in early, even just a couple of hours was a massive bonus, especially after a long flight.

What Could Be Better

None of these were major enough to ruin our stay, but there are definitely a few things Hotel Mi Rochor could improve:

• The windows seriously needed a clean: We paid extra for a city-view room, but the outside of the windows was pretty bad. You could still see out, but taking a photo through them was basically impossible.
• Housekeeping missed our room one day: We switched on the cleaning light before heading out, only to return later and find the room hadn’t been touched. It seemed to be a one-off, but it was still annoying.
• The pool closes when it rains: Singapore weather can change ridiculously fast, so this does limit when you can use it. I think this is due to a lightning risk, though they’re good at opening it back up fast once the rain stops.
• Some things feel too small for the number of guests: The breakfast restaurant can be difficult to find a seat in during busy periods, while the laundry only has two washers and two dryers.

The rooms and bathrooms are also compact, though honestly, that’s pretty normal for Singapore and exactly what I expected at this price.

Wrap Up: Is Hotel Mi Rochor Worth Staying At?

Overall, Hotel Mi Rochor isn’t perfect, but it has proven to be a really solid place to stay in Singapore.

The rooms are small, the bathroom is cramped and there were a couple of annoying issues during my latest visit, but none of that outweighed having a comfortable private room, a pool and the MRT basically outside for a decent price.

Would I stay again? Yep, and I think that probably says it all. I’d recommend it if you want an affordable base for exploring Singapore, but if you’re looking for loads of space or a more luxurious hotel experience, this probably isn’t the one.

Compared with the other Singapore hotels I’ve stayed at, Hotel Mi Rochor isn’t the fanciest, but it is one of the best value. For me, that’s what makes it such an easy option to return to.
