Rainforest Wild Adventure Review: My Honest Guide

Come read about my experience at Rainforest Wild Adventure in Singapore. I’ll let you know the truth, with the good, bad, and questionable, as well as letting you know everything you need to know about visiting.

Rainforest Wild Adventure is part zoo, part playground, theme park, hiking track, and the list could keep going on. It’s got a lot of entertainment aspects here, and the animals are just an extra bonus. Little cherry on top.

Singapore has a bunch of zoos all under the Mandai Wildlife brand, so I decided to bite the bullet, open up my wallet, and purchase the multi-day pass. This meant I could visit each and every zoo they offer and let you know whether they are worth it.

The first zoo on my little animal adventure around Singapore was Rainforest Wild Adventure. I had just got off a 14-hour flight, determined to make the most of the few days I had here, so it was straight into a taxi to begin ticking off the 5 parks.

Now, let’s actually get into my Rainforest Wild Adventure review so you can decide whether you’d also like to splash the cash here.

What To Expect At Rainforest Wild Adventure In Singapore

As I said, Rainforest Wild isn’t your stock standard zoo. Sure, there are animals, but they aren’t the main focus here.

Instead, it’s a lot more active, and sure walking around all day is pretty active in itself. Though here you’ll find walking trails on the lower forest floor all around the park. On these, you’ll cross over rivers, walk along logs, and there are plenty of play elements along the way.

Though, because I had just been on a long night flight, and was completely sleep deprived, I forgot all about the path aspect and wore my flip flops here. This meant the tracks were a complete no-go, which honestly I wasn’t mad about, as I just wanted to have a chill time. Instead, I stuck to the elevated walkway and have absolutely no regrets.

Onsite you will also find:

• Bounce Zone
• Canopy Glider
• Canopy Jump
• Rock Climbing
• Caving
• Treetop Adventure Course

There are even more activities, though what you need to know is that the majority of these are an extra cost on top of your standard ticket (I’ll get into exact prices further down). This means things can really add up if you want to do it all, or if you’ve got kids eyeing up every activity and you’re trying not to be the bad guy.

Where Is Rainforest Wild Located?

You can find Rainforest Wild Adventures inside the Mandai Wildlife Park. The fastest and easiest way to get there is by taxi or Grab, which costs $25.00 and takes 30 minutes. This is what I did a lot of the time, and even though it’s expensive, you are saving a lot of time compared to the other options.

Alternatively, there is public transport available as well

• MRT & Bus: The easiest public transport option is to take the MRT first, then jump on a connecting bus. Make your way to Ang Mo Kio MRT and then take Bus 138, or head to Choa Chu Kang MRT and take Bus 927. Another option is to go to Springleaf MRT and then take Bus 138 from there.
• Bus: You can also only take a bus, but be aware you’ll have to change onto Bus 138 or Bus 927, which serve the Madi Wildlife area.

I recommend using the public transport option on Google Maps to figure out which public transport method will be best for you. The Mandai website also has timetables for shuttles, bus schedules, and parking information.

The one thing I love about the transport system here is that you can literally tap on and off with your debit or credit card. You don’t need to worry about strangely named train cards or buying tickets, so it’s all super easy.

Rainforest Wild Adventure Ticket Prices

Okay, the more painful bit here is the tickets because they aren’t cheap at all, so if you are trying to travel Singapore on a budget, this probably isn’t where you want to be. Though if you can afford to splash some cash you’re in the right place.

Rainforest Wild Adventure tickets start from S$55.00 / $43.00 for adults and S$39.00 / $30.00 for children for tourists, with local resident pricing being a few dollars cheaper than this.

Though in all honesty, in terms of value for money I highly recommend doing purchasing the 5 Attractions Destination Pass (5-Day). This is exactly what I did, and it cost S$128.00 / $100.00 for adults and S$98.00 / $77.00 for children.

This gives you one-time entry to each of the five parks into Rainforest Wild Adventure, Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise, and Night Safari.

I was in Singapore for 3 days, and focused on 2 zoos per day, and the Night Safari on the last day, so I still had a day to chill around the city.

What’s Included With A Standard Ticket?

So I did say earlier that certain activities will cost extra, though thankfully, some are included in the standard ticket price, which is always much appreciated.

The main inclusions are:

• Entry to both Rainforest Wild Adventure zones: EAST and WEST
• Access to the animal habitats, lower walking routes and elevated walkways
• Keeper talks at set times

Play & Adventure+ Activities: Are They Worth Paying Extra For?

Basically, this is where Rainforest Wild Adventure feels more like an adventure park than a normal zoo. Though you’re paying extra for the additional fun, which isn’t fun if you’re the one footing the bill.

If there is something you’re dead set on, make sure you check the Mandai website as some require advance bookings or are only available on certain days.

• Split Rock Summit $10.00 — 11m high climb/lookout with a jump-style finish

What Animals Can You See At Rainforest Wild Adventure?

While Rainforest Wild is definitely more adventure-focused there are still plenty of animals to spot along the way… If you can see them that is. It’s not a negative, but the enclosures here are super natural and covered in bush. Ultimately we found it was a 50/50 chance of seeing things.

Nevertheless the park is home to 58 different species. Some of the main animals you may see include Malayan tigers, sun bears, tapirs, langurs, deer, tortoises, and crocodiles, as well as the park’s newer additions like okapi and Diana monkeys.

Honestly even though I accidentally forced myself to take the elevated platforms I think this was a blessing in disguse. Being a bit higher up actually helped with spotting the animals, and I didn’t end up with a sore neck from looking up the entire time.

The animals I missed out on seeing, simply because they were in hiding, were the different deer, lesser mousedeer, Javan langurs, and sun bears. So if there’s one specific animal you’re desperate to see, just manage your expectations a little.

The Best Parts Of Rainforest Wild Adventure

Here are some of the things I enjoyed most about visiting:

• The enclosures were open, spacious, and a lot of effort was put in to make things as natural as possible for the animals.
• The raised boardwalk made seeing the animals easier throughout the park and it was cool to be the same height as the monkeys who were chilling high in the trees.
• The extra activities are pretty cool, especially for kids and teens. A lot of the time they were also themed around the nearby animals for example rock climbing near the Francois’ langurs.
• The cavern was cool, both visually and temperature wise. It’s a super temperature unique part of the park being all dark and quiet, and it’s such a nice refreshing break from the heat
• One of my main highlights was seeing the funny looking Red-shanked Douc Langur. I was planning to go out of my way to see them in Vietnam, but after my visit here I didn’t need too!

What I Didn’t Love

With the good comes the bad and I must say this wasn’t my favorite Mandai Wildlife park I visited.

• Surprisingly some of the enclosures seemed awkwardly tucked away like the Tapirs behind one of the restaurants.
• There’s a lot of vegetation in the enclosures which is great, but it makes it pretty hard to spot animals so don’t expect to see everything.
• Food outside the park is pretty on par with Singapore prices, though as soon as your ticket is scanned and you go through prices sky rocket. It was so hot as well I spent so much on cold drinks!
• Not necessarily a negative, but just was a bit freaky for me is that the snakes and scorpions in the Cavern area were open with only a hip height glass rail seperating them! As someone who isn’t the biggest fan this wasn’t a massive surprise.

About Rainforest Wild Adventure East

Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to visit the recently opened east side of the park! I literally just missed out on the opening date, though that gives me an excuse to go back on my next visit.

This part of the park is focused on the African landscape and animals from those countries, whereas on the west side of the park you’ll find well known Asian landscapes and animals. Of course there are still the extra activities here as well, so it’s definitely worth visiting both sides!

Is Rainforest Wild In Singapore Worth It?

Honestly, for me I didn’t find Rainforest Wild in Singapore worth it. I rated it was my less favorite zoo in Singapore, though honestly I think thats mainly because I’m not the right target demographic.

Sure, its a good zoo, but I was there more for the animals than the activities, and it didn’t really suffice. It may have been my own fault for brining the wrong shoes, but I feel in a zoo there is enough walking as is and I didn’t really want to traverse obsiciles, especially in the crazy Singapore heat.

If you are traveling as a family, or even with teenagers, this would probbaly be a really good middle ground. The kids can keep entertained with some of the extra activities, and you can enjoy the animals. Though just budget a bit extra for this.
