A Weekend in St Kilda, Melbourne Australia
If the hussle and bussle of busy Melbourne is getting on your nerves a bit too much, then I highly recommend you spend a little time in St Kilda. Just a short tram ride away from Melbourne CBD the relaxed vibes and chilled out residents make this place seem miles away.
Where to stay?
Hostel: Check out Base Backpackers St Kilda
Hotel: Have a look at Cosmopolitan Hotel
Both options are directly opposite the street from each other and in prime location for exploring St Kilda.
What to do?
Looking for something different to do while in St Kilda? Something exhilarating? Exciting? That would make an excellent story? Why not give skydiving a go? Located next to the St Kilda Marina Skydive Melbourne has a group of well trained staff and excellent facilities to make your experience perfection! Check out their website for prices and get ready for an epic adventure.
Bring out your inner child at Luna Park. They have a mixture of relaxed and exhilarating rides, perfect for any type of person. The rollercoaster, Scenic Railway, is also one of the oldest still operating, with even a brake man standing in the middle! Grab some amazing fairground treats such as hot chips, donuts and hot dogs. Make sure to book your tickets online for an extra discount and skip the main ticket line (we had to wait an hour to get in).
Oh my gosh! Seriously, the food here is amazing!
On a budget? For a cheap eat head to Renix Woodfire Pizza which is affordable as well as one of the best pizzas I have ever had.
Feeling a little fancy? Dress up and visit Rococo Acland Street for amazing Italian food and the freshest seafood.
Looking for a delicious meal with great atmosphere? Check out Abbey Road Café for awesome cocktails, good lunch deals and amazing tasting food. Seriously, I went here at least once a day while in St Kilda. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all great- and by the amount of times I have eaten there, I would know!
St Kilda Esplanade Market
For something a little more relaxing hit up the St Kilda Esplanade Markets. Held on every Sunday between 10am and 4pm it is the perfect way to spend part of the day. There are other 140 artists and craftspeople with items such as body products, food, art and more, you will be enjoying every moment.
If you are in the area seeing the little penguins all march together at sunset is absolute perfection. Head down to the public area of St Kilda Breakwater for the best spot. They are ‘parading’ all year round, though during the winter months there may only be a couple, so best to experience this in summer. Also, during daylight savings there will be volunteer guides to show off the penguins, educate and answer questions.
