Bagan is a bucket list destination for many travelers. With the beautiful sunrises, endless pagodas and numerous hot air balloons, the beautiful sights seem never-ending. In deciding upon somewhere to stay we knew we wanted to find a property which was just as spectacular as its surroundings. The Heritage Bagan Hotel provided the perfect oasis for our 2 nights which we spent enjoying Bagan. Find out all about it in our Heritage Bagan Hotel review below.
The Perfect Bagan Stay: Heritage Bagan Hotel Review
Heritage Bagan is a very short 10-minute walk from the local airport, perfect from anyone flying into Bagan. Though, there are plenty of taxis waiting around which will be more than happy to give you a lift. The location is perfect being in Nyaung-U, one of my favorite areas in Bagan. Though, being closer to the airport does mean though that you are about a 10-minute drive from the main town and surrounding temples.
Luckily, this was no problem for us as we made full use of the ebike hire available through the Heritage Bagan Hotel. On checking out we were also given the use of the hotels tuk-tuk to get to another area of town.
We arrived at Bagan early at approximately 9.30am. Flying was our chosen transportation method as it was a lot quicker than the overnight bus. As it was still morning we decided to walk the short distance to the hotel from the airport. Upon arrival, we were greeted with cold welcome drinks and a cold towel to refresh. Even though we were early than their regular 2pm check-in time, they priority cleaned the room for us so we didn’t have to wait around to long.
We decided instead though to hire an ebike and go out to explore some of the many temples of Bagan. When we returned a few hours later we find out that our room is ready from the friendly reception staff. A lovely gentleman helped carry our bags to our room which was the perfect introduction to the Heritage Bagan Hotel.
Staying In The Grand Deluxe Room
The grand deluxe rooms are set up in individual authentic style buildings of 8 rooms. There are 4 on the ground floor and 4 on the first floor. Each is named after one of the 8 Myanmar dynasties and are each decorated with different local handicrafts. What we truly loved about the buildings which make up the rooms is how they have been inspired by the beautiful temples with the materials used and designs.
The grand deluxe rooms at the Heritage are very big, (38sqm to be exact) with lots of separate spaces if you want to lounge around or sit up at the desk to do some work. There is also a private balcony with a couple of chairs and a small table if you want to escape for some fresh air. The décor is modern yet elegant, with various art pieces showing off the local culture. It is obvious a lot of effort has been put into designing the rooms with beautiful small details all taken into account.
Features of the room include a decent size TV, tea and coffee facilities, safe, mini-bar, robe and slippers, wardrobe with some hanging space, in-room laundry service and a very generous double bed which is very comfy.
The bathroom has both a bath and a walk-in shower and is stocked with many complimentary items and lotions. A big plus from us is that they provide bath foam perfect for having a luxurious bubble bath after a busy day. Deluxe rooms also come with free Wi-Fi which is actually super-fast so great for anyone working away from home.
One bonus feature of the Heritage Bagan Hotel is being able to hire electric scooters direct. Just sign a form with your room number and each hire will be added to your end bill upon checking out. We made use of the scooters each morning for sunrise and in the evening for sunset.
No doubt ebike is the best way to explore the surroundings in Bagan. They can fit 2 people, although I recommend one per person if you are confident enough to ride. Though, just be careful riding, especially on the dirt roads as accidents are extremely common.
Another feature of the Heritage Bagan Hotel is the huge pool. Although kept cool we found to be very inviting during the midday heat. This is where you could find us between the sunrise and sunsets. Huge towels are provided and there are plenty of deck chairs to choose from. Oftentimes there is a member of staff on hand who can help pick a chair and roll out a towel.
The pool is long enough for anyone that wants to swim lengths. Although my favorite is in one corner, where staff can turn on jets to turn into a jacuzzi. Opposite this is a similar closed in area without the jets designed for the kids. Overall the pool area is extremely clean and well looked after.
Gym & Spa
Other facilities for guests of the heritage include a gym which is free to use. There is also a spa offering many sorts of massage treatments by appointment.
Dining At The Queen Saw Restaurant
The Queen Saw restaurant is the in-house dining option for those staying at the Heritage Bagan Hotel. In fact, our first experience was the buffet breakfast and saying there was a huge choice on offer would be an understatement.
We turned up for breakfast at a reasonable 9am and were shown to a table. Tea is served before we made our way over the many different choices of food on offer. Fried rice, sautéed potatoes, baked beans, bacon, sausages, Danish’s, croissants, cereal, noodles, soups, salads, pancakes, fresh seasonal fruit. Basically, there is something for everyone as they serve an extremely wide range of cuisines.
Also, the best part is the man in the chef’s hat who is at the egg station ready for whatever you feel like that morning. To finish it all off, water and juices are on hand to help yourself as you need. I was even impressed that they offer healthier drinks with less sugar, we saw carrot juice and green juice during our stay.
All Day Dining
The quality of the food served during breakfast was such high quality. As a result, we decided to eat at the Queen Saw for lunch and dinner the following day. Again, the standard of service was exceptional and each meal was served with a smile from the friendly staff. Craving a taste of home we happily choose the carbonara and the wood fired pizza’s, it was all exemplary.
The Heritage Bagan Hotel is perfect for anyone wanting a little bit of luxury and home comforts during their time in Bagan. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it. Food is important to us and the Queen Saw restaurant was certainly a highlight. The Heritage Bagan Hotel has many great facilities such as the pool or the gym which should keep you occupied. Though, if you’re feeling like exploring then you can easily hire an ebike to check out the temples. I hope you enjoyed my Heritage Bagan hotel review, and make sure you check it out for your visit to Bagan.
